Her rural background and interest in Appalachian music and its Celtic heritage also lead her to play Great Highland Bagpipes. She performs on the instrument over 50 times per year both as a soloist and member of the Clan MacPherson Pipes and Drums, one of the oldest continually performing bagpipe organizations in the United States, founded in 1921.
